UPDF Steps Up Preparations for Tarehe Sita in Kabale
As Uganda prepares to mark the 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary, the UPDF and other security agencies conduct rehearsals and set up the venue in Kabale, highlighting the region’s role in the country’s liberation struggle.

Preparations are in full swing in Kabale Municipality ahead of Uganda’s 45th Tarehe Sita anniversary.

The 2026 celebrations will be held in the Kigezi sub-region, specifically in Kabale District, under the theme: “Protecting the Gains of the Revolution and Honoring the Sacrifice of the Freedom Fighters.”

At the main venue, the former National Teachers College (NTC) playground, now UNITE Campus, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies were seen conducting parade rehearsals, while service providers set up the grounds for the event.

The Second Division spokesperson, Maj. Kiconco Tabaro, said Tarehe Sita commemorates the UPDF’s successful transformation, including modernization, professionalization, enhanced training, and improved equipment.

“As part of giving back to the community, the UPDF has undertaken several development projects, including the construction of roads and bridges,” Maj. Tabaro said.

He also emphasized the pivotal role played by the Kigezi region in Uganda’s liberation struggle, noting that many individuals from the area lost their lives under Idi Amin’s regime for their involvement in the fight for freedom.

“Kigezi served as a key recruitment area for both FRONASA and NIRA and contributed significantly to peace and stability in the country,” Maj. Tabaro added.

Uganda commemorates Tarehe Sita every year on February 6.
